A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Buy

Hot water units need more upkeep. Beyond standard pump and engine maintenance, the burner assembly and heating coil benefit from periodic professional tune-ups to keep them running safely and efficiently — something a cold water unit simply doesn't have.

Ventilation matters for indoor use. Fuel-fired burners produce exhaust. If you're planning to use a hot water unit indoors (a shop or warehouse, for example), make sure the space is properly ventilated, and check the manufacturer's specifications and local safety guidelines before doing so.

Check local wastewater rules. This applies to both hot and cold water pressure washing, but it's especially relevant with hot water and detergent use on oily surfaces: many areas have regulations around where wash water and runoff are allowed to go, particularly near storm drains. It's worth understanding your local requirements before starting a job, especially for commercial use.

"Hot water" claims vary. Not every unit marketed as "hot water" reaches a temperature that's actually high enough to meaningfully emulsify grease. If breaking down grease and oil is your goal, look for units that reach at least the 180°F+ range at the nozzle — lower-temperature units may not deliver the cleaning improvement you're expecting.
